Invisible sister movie12/19/2023 But it doesn't matter much, since those two are the main characters anyway. As such, Olivia Thirlby and Alan Ritchson carry the movie, while all the other actors are obviously out of their depth and without direction. With better, more careful attention, this film could have been a new hit. And when I say "by herself" I mean I am a bit disappointed with the direction and editing of the film, probably due to budget issues, but still. You might know her as the sidekick in Dredd and I didn't expect her to be this good. Undoubtedly, the star of the film is Olivia Thirlby, who shines (by herself, ironically), as the girl who no one can see or hear or smell. The shifting images within the viewfinder convey the events of her journey and help to guide Holly to a breakthrough in love and in life. A central visual metaphor of the film is a tiny kaleidoscope given to Holly by her mother. Holly's newfound wisdom helps her to reconnect to her family. And she needs to be there for others, as opposed to expecting others to be there for her. From the sensitive boxer, Holly learns that she should not look for the worst in people, but the best. But what will be the life lessons for both Holly and Shayne? The filmmakers take the audience on an interesting journey in this fantasy, and the actress playing the adult Holly is terrific. The two characters seem to have something to offer each other in their dire predicaments. She then takes over as his manager, using her invisibility to make the matches and fix the fights. Will the woman named Holly use her invisibility as a gift? Or, will it be the bane of her life? The film's opening sequence draws the audience immediately into the fantasy: "Once there was a girl who was invisible." A seemingly miraculous occurrence takes place when a washed up kick-boxer named Shayne actually sees Holly, and they make contact. In a fantasy-fairy tale structure, the film examines some of the same philosophical notions as Plato. "Above the Shadows" offers a modern spin on the ancient tale with a twelve-year-old girl who becomes invisible after the tragic death of her mother. This provides the perfect avenue for the girls to walk a mile in each other’s shoes, and discover that each one’s life is quite different than how the other perceived it.In his philosophical treatise "The Republic," Plato described the famous ring of Gyges, which permitted him to become invisible and do horrible things out of greed and self-interest. With an important field hockey game that afternoon, Molly has to be in class to be allowed to play– even if it’s really Cleo just pretending to be her. With their parents conveniently out of town for Halloween weekend, Molly has Cleo dress in Molly’s costume to pretend to be her. The only person who knows about the experiment is Cleo herself, thus they must keep Molly’s condition a secret. When Molly accidentally ingests Cleo’s science project, which turned a moth invisible, she herself turns invisible. When the boy Cleo likes shows interest in her, she assumes he’s only doing it to make fun of her, since he’s a jock. But Cleo is too afraid of being the plot of a high school movie where the nerd is mocked by the cool kids, and always turns her down. Molly is often reaching out to Cleo, inviting her to be friends with her friends. The only person standing in the way of Cleo’s happiness is Cleo. What I love about this movie is that Molly isn’t a villain, or even an antagonist. Cleo feels constantly eclipsed by her sister, which Molly can’t understand. Her older sister Molly seems to have life mastered, as a popular athlete with lots of friends. As a chemistry prodigy, Cleo feels isolated from most of the other students in her high school. Her character in Invisible Sister is quite different than Riley on GMW. She delighted her fans with her role in the Disney Channel Original Movie, Invisible Sister. I love this girl! She’s adorable and a great actress and seems like exactly who I would’ve wanted to be friends with when I was a young teen. Disney fans have been treated to more screen time for Girl Meets World star Rowan Blanchard.
